New Editor, New Look for Smitten Magazine
National wedding magazine relaunches with new creative vision
CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 2, 2013) — National digital wedding publication Smitten Magazine will relaunch next week showcasing a cover-to-cover editorial redesign with the Spring/Summer issue becoming available for purchase April 8.
The changes are the first to be made under Smitten Magazine’s new editor-in-chief Becky Hoppmann, who assumed the position last fall. Hoppmann is one of the original founders of the magazine and, in addition to her new editorship, remains the Creative Director.
Under Hoppmann’s leadership, the one-year old magazine’s relaunch sees the reintroduction of the publication as a resource for the modern bride to be. Published quarterly, each issue of Smitten Magazine will feature photographs of real weddings, health and beauty tips, doable DIY projects, trends, etiquette guides and various ways to host a dream wedding on a budget. Smitten Magazine will retain its hallmark emphasis on photography and fun, concise editorial pieces.
“It’s easy to spend a lot of money in order to create your dream wedding,” says Hoppmann, “But that’s not a reality for most brides.”
In redesigning Smitten Magazine Hoppmann drew inspiration from her own wedding. Like most brides, Hoppmann had an idea of the look and feel she wanted on her big day but was unprepared for the expense.
“Planning a wedding can become expensive quickly. Smitten Magazine shows readers that it’s possible to have a beautiful, memorable day without spending an over-the-top amount,” explains Hoppmann.
In her new role as editor, Hoppmann endeavored to recreate Smitten as a magazine that merged two seemingly contradictory elements when it comes to weddings: modern elegance and affordability. Though the magazine will publish some do-it-yourself tips and trends, Hoppmann was adamant about not turning Smitten Magazine into a DIY publication.
“Smitten Magazine is designed to inspire, not to instruct,” she explains “We’re for the do-some-of-it-yourself bride, not the do-it-all-by-yourself bride.”
In addition to relaunching, Smitten Magazine has expanded to include two additional editorial staff members, Pamela Lesch, beauty editor; and Kathleen McCormack, senior editor.
Readers will get their first look at the revamped magazine and accompanying website, www.smitten-mag.com, when the Spring/Summer issue becomes available for purchase on Monday, April 8. The digital magazine is available for download on tablets and smartphones via Apple Newsstand or on readers’ personal computers via their preferred browser. Readers interested in ordering a printed copy of the magazine may do so through Mag Cloud.
